NEWS CENTER - It has been reported that hundreds of women were kidnapped during attacks on the Lazkiye, Tartus, Homs and Hama regions of Syria and their whereabouts are unknown.
Since the collapse of the Baath regime on 8 December 2024 and the establishment of a new government in Syria, thousands of people have been killed and many others kidnapped in the regions of Latakia, Tartus, Homs and Hama.
According to a report published by the Syrian Centre for Freedom of Expression and Press on 9 July 2025, at least 1,600 people were killed in Hama and its surroundings between the beginning of 2025 and March, and that numerous human rights violations, including torture, physical violence, sectarian insults, execution threats, and the intimidation of young children, had taken place.
ALEVI YOUNG WOMEN ARE BEING KIDNAPPED
The report, based on local sources, stated that women in particular were being kidnapped and their whereabouts were unknown, and that the kidnappings were continuing. It was noted that the vast majority of the hundreds of women kidnapped in the region were Alevi women.
According to a report published on the France 24 television website, there have been 50 abductions in Tartus and its countryside alone, and that the victims are young Alevi women.
No official report has yet been prepared on the matter. The Syrian transitional government has established a committee to investigate and document the incidents. However, the committee has not yet made any public statement regarding the abductions.
