MÊRDÎN - Culture and Art Festival organised by Nisêbîn (Nusaybin) Municipality in Mêrdîn (Mardin) started with the participation of thousands of people. In the speeches, the "Democratic Society Process" was mentioned and the determination to struggle was emphasised.
The Culture and Art Festival, which will last for 4 days, started yesterday evening with a concert by singer Suavi. Thousands of people attended the concert organised in Newroz Square. Before the concert, Municipality Co-mayors Gulbin Sahin Daghan and Selahattin Ay addressed the participants of the festival.
'WE WILL EMBRACE THE PROCESS TOGETHER'
Selahattin Ay said that they wanted to protect their art and culture with the festival. Reminding the "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" made by Kurdish People'S Leader Abdullah Öcalan on 27 February. "We will protect this process together," he said.
Gulbin Sahin Daghan said that nothing has been done in the field of culture and arts in the city for 9 years. She stressed that they wil continue to keep Kurdish culture alive and strengthen it.
Lastly People's Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Provincial Co-chair Nihat Gokalp said that they are going through historical days and Ocalan is a breath of fresh air for the Kurdish people. Stating that Abdullah Öcalan put democratic politics and democratic society in front of the Kurds with his 27 February call he said: "A new era has begun after 52 years of struggle and 52 years of heroism of the Kurds. We will embrace this process and continue our struggle."
After the speeches, singer Suavi took the stage.
