AMED – Kurdish Women's Unity Platform will organise the 3rd Kurdish Women's Platform Conference in Amed (Diyarbakır) on 21-22 June with the slogan "Bi yekitiya jinên kurd, ber bi yekitiya neteweyî ye (From Kurdish women's unity to Kurdish national unity )".

Hundreds of women are expected to come together at the conference, where workshops will be organised to draw a road map for Kurdish women’s unity. The conference will last for 2 days. Final declaration will be announced on the last day.

Kurdish Women’s Unity Platform member Semire Nergiz reminded that the Platform organised their first conference in 2017 and their second conference in 2019. Semire Nergiz said that they will spend the first day of the conference with workshops under 4 headings: "We will discuss language, culture, women's dimension, which has been ignored for years, women's genocide and violence against women.”

'THE MAIN THEME IS KURDISH WOMEN'S UNITY'

Semire Nergiz stated that the philosophy of "jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)" in Iran after the death of Jina Eminî, who became the symbol of women's struggle, will be one of the main agendas of this conference and that the name of one of their workshops will be "Jina Êmini".

She said: "Especially in Iran, we still talk about the execution of women and the violence against women for the hair on their heads. We will also talk about these in this workshop and conference, but the main theme of the conference will be the unity of Kurdish women. With this conference, we will endeavour to knit our future, make our planning and clarify it with the final declaration."

Semire Nergiz stated that women will attend the conference in their traditional clothes: "This is important for the preservation of Kurdish culture from the women's perspective.”

'WOMEN ARE STRONG ENOUGH TO FACE THE PROCESS'

Semire Nergiz stated that the conference has gained even more importance in this period when the new design in the Middle East is being discussed. Semire Nergiz emphasized that there is a history of women that has been ignored but still women have the power and energy to make change.

She concluded: “Therefore, while the Middle East geography is being shaped, this accumulation of women, this combative stance of women will of course be important for the construction of a new democratic society. We attach importance to the unity of Kurdish women and state that we will make full use of women's knowledge, experience and energy, especially for change and transformation, for the protection and development of our language. Especially the final declaration we will issue at this conference will provide us with a road map."
