DÊRSIM - Kader Akgül, the mother of prisoner Ali Hasan Akgül, who went on an indefinite hunger strike for his demands, said: "Everyone should speak up for our children who are on hunger strike against well-type prisons."

Ali Hasan Akgül (26), who is being held in Ankara Sincan High Security Closed Prison, is on the 122nd day of his indefinite hunger strike demanding to be transferred to prisons that are not type S, R and Y where his friends are. Ali Hasan Akgül's mother Kader Akgül (45) organised many protests for her son who is on indefinite hunger strike.

Kader Akgül stated that her son's demands are humanitarian and acceptable demands and called on the Ministry of Justice. Kader Akgül reminded that her son started the hunger strike because he did not accept the well-type prison far from humanitarian conditions and said: "My son was arrested in Istanbul on 19 December 2024 and taken to Silivri Prison. After 1 month in Silivri Prison, he was exiled to Ankara Sincan High Security Prison on 2 February. After the deportation, they wrote a petition to the Ministry of Justice against the inhumane practices in prison. They asked for their transfer to another place because of the conditions here. There is no sun there, they cannot see the sky. The Ministry of Justice did not respond positively or negatively to their petition. My son has been on an indefinite hunger strike since 18 February."

'ACCEPTABLE, HUMANITARIAN DEMANDS'

Mother Kader Akgül wants her son's request to be transferred from the prison called "well-type" by the public to be accepted. "My daughter went to see him last week. My son and his friend Ali Araç, who is on hunger strike in prison with him, are in poor condition and have serious weight loss. Since they lost their body heat, they wore sweaters and fleece over their sweaters. They wanted to take photographs during the visit, but the guards did not allow them to do so, saying 'the camera is broken'. The camera is not broken, but they do not want the photographs taken to be shared with the press. They started to have mouth sores. Our children are kept in places where there is no air, no sun, closed with 3-stage wire fences, where even the air cannot enter through small windows. Ventilation is limited to 1 hour and 1 and a half hours, and they make it coincide with the hours when the courtyard does not see the sun. The demands of our children are acceptable, human demands."

Kader Akgül called for public sensitivity and said, "Let them be a voice for the voices of our children who are on hunger strike against well-type prisons."
