ÊLIH - Êlih co-mayors and council members were prevented from entering the municipality building by the police. Co-mayor Yeşil Işık reacted to the situation and said that the government that does not recognise the constitution has lost its legitimacy.

Co-mayors of Êlih (Batman) Municipality Gülistan Sönük, Yeşil Işık and municipality council members were prevented from entering the municipality building by the police. Co-mayors and municipality council members were prevented from entering the municipality at Basın Junction on Diyarbakır Street. The police blockaded the municipality and did not allow the crowd to enter the municipality on the grounds that "there is a governorate order". The crowd reacted against the police upon this decision.

'THE GOVERNMENT HAS LOST ITS LEGITIMACY'

Co-mayors and municipality council members made a statement in front of the Human Rights Monumant on Gülistan Street. Speaking here, Peoples' Equalty and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Êlih Provincial Co-chair Songül Korkmaz stated that the bans were applied only to their party and that the police officers who prevented the entrance to the municipality and those who gave the order committed a crime.

Co-Mayor of Êlih Municipality Yeşil Işık stated that those who appointed trustees to the will of the people banned entry to the municipality and said: "We will continue our struggle until the illegal trustee regime steps back. It is an offence not to let the municipality council members in. The government, which talks about elections after the blow to democracy, is in hypocrisy. The government has lost its legitimacy. Because it has not recognised the law, it has not recognised the people's right to elect and be elected. We will continue to show our reaction from now on."

The statement ended with the slogans "Bijî berxwedana Batmanê (Long live resistance of Batman), "Kayyum talan e berxwedan jiyan e (Trustee system is plunder, resistance is life) and "We will win if we resist".
