3rd Hydroelectric plant on Hêzil Stream

ŞIRNEX- Third Hydroelectric plant will be built on the Hêzil Stream that flows through the Qileban district at a cost of 810 million liras.

Ecological destruction continues in all aspects in the geography of Şirnex (Şırnak-Kürdistan). The Cûdî, Gabar and Kato Mountains and the Besta Region have been experiencing an uninterrupted massacre of nature for 4 years. Due to oil exploration, mines and sand quarries, Hydroelectric plant projects and hundreds of thousands of trees cut down, the region is being depopulated and dehumanized.

In the Qileban (Uludere) district of Şirnex, which has a population of 44,924 including the villages, more than 10 dams have been built on the streams passing through the villages of Hîlal, Ziravik, Nêrweh, Bilih, Kiror and Roboskî.

Finally, the energy companies have set their sights on the Heftborî region of the Hêzil Stream, a natural wonder where thousands of people visit every year for sightseeing, picnics and swimming. Heftborî is located in the Sêgirkê (Şenoba) town of Qileban and is known for its natural beauty.

THE PROJECT IS WORTH 810 MILLION

Sekerek Regulator and Hydroelectric Power Plant with an installed capacity of 33.247 Megawatt Electricity (MW) will be built by Kaizen Enerji A.Ş. in Heftborî. The cost of the project after the tender was determined as 810 million Liras. The tender for the dam was allegedly awarded to Sêgirkê town mayor Alihan Babat and his family, who were elected from the New Welfare Party (YRP) in the March 31 elections and later resigned and became independent. It is not clear when the construction of the project will start.

THE PROJECT WILL BE BUILT IN TWO PHASES

A river-type hydroelectric power plant will be built on the Hezil Stream in two phases: Sekerek-1 Regulator and Hydroelectric Power Plant and Sekerek-2 Regulator and Hydroelectric Power Plant. Within the scope of the project, the water to be raised on the Hezil Stream at the maximum water level of 854 meters by the Sekerek-1 Regulator with a gate located at the thalweg elevation of 847 meters (m) will be transferred to the loading pool through a 2,895-meter-long, 6-meter-wide and 3.75-meter-high reinforced concrete U channel.

In previous years, two dams, Silopi Dam and Hydroelectric Plant and Silopi Energy Group Hydroelectric Plant, were built on the Hêzil Stream.

49-YEAR PRODUCTION LICENSE GRANTED

On the other hand, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) granted a 49-year production license to the 85 MW Can Dam and Hydroelectric Plant project on Habur Stream in Elkê (Beytüşşebap) district, which was tendered by Bayraktar İnşaat and started construction in 2016.
