NEWS CENTER - Selahattin Demirtaş applied to the Ministry of Justice to meet with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan via SEGBİS.

Selahattin Demirtaş, former Co-Chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) held in Edirne Prison, made an application to meet with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, being held under heavy isolation conditions in İmralı Type F High Security Closed Prison, via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). In the petition shared by Demirtaş Defense Group, the following statements were made: "As it is known, Abdullah Öcalan has been held in solitary confinement and in isolation conditions in the İmralı High Security Prison, affiliated to your Ministry, for nearly twenty-three years. He has been unlawfully deprived of his visiting rights with his family and lawyers for more than twenty months. However, in the past years, when he was able to establish contact with the outside, the hopes for social peace and a democratic solution in Turkey were growing, and the society was able to breathe."

'ISOLATION FEEDS THE CHAOS IN THE COUNTRY'

The application, which draws attention to the poverty, economic crisis and social depression in the country, continued as follows: "The government's policy of conflict and tension, both inside and outside, causes great loss and suffering. The greatest expectation of the people is that these wrong policies should be abandoned as soon as possible; peace and tranquility to be established and poverty and unemployment will come to an end. However, the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı Prison, along with many wrong policies, feeds this chaotic environment and escalates the tension.

I believe that it would be better for the whole of Turkey if your ministry ended this practice, which is already against the law. It is not and cannot be a moral attitude for anyone who believes in democratic politics and peace to remain silent or watch the sacrifice of every child of the country while they are invaluable. In order to put an end to the policies implemented in İmralı Prison permanently, I request, as a lawyer and politician, to meet Abdullah Öcalan from Edirne Type F Prison by means of SEGBİS, and the ensurance that he can meet regularly with his family and lawyers. I hope and wish that this application, which I made with the responsibility of a politician who believes in law, justice, social peace and that problems should be resolved through dialogue, will be received positively."
