DEM Party MP Çiftyürek: If we unite, days of freedom await us

WAN - Emphasizing that Kurds must establish a common mechanism to resolve their problems in the face of developments in the Middle East, DEM Party MP Sinan Çiftyürek said, “If we correctly read the new process, days of freedom await the Kurdish people.”

Attention in the Middle East remains focused on how the ongoing war between the US-Israel bloc and Iran will evolve. As the war that began on 28 February enters its third month, the process continues through fragile negotiations. According to the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK), one of the most organized Kurdish forces in Iran both militarily and socially, the process between hegemonic powers and the regime is preparation for a new war.

Evaluating the US-Iran war, Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Wan (Van) MP Sinan Çiftyürek stated that the Middle East is being reshaped and that this redesign is part of “the US desire to establish hegemony.”

Çiftyürek said: “The US is pursuing global hegemony. It wants to redesign the Middle East in line with its own interests. Israel is also acting together with the US based on regional security concerns and calculations.”

Pointing out that threats against Iran are tied to Iran’s democratization, Çiftyürek said: “There needs to be democracy in Iran and a solution for Kurdistan on the basis of federalism. This is what will resolve the issue and end the war. In this equation, the Kurdistan front and the federalism front are ready. However, the dynamics of a democracy front in Iran have neither been shaped nor unified. Therefore, since this equation has not materialized, the regime continues to survive.”

Çiftyürek stressed that even if the war ends, the problems in Iran will not disappear. He stated that the reason for this is “the continuing demands for freedom by both Kurds and other peoples.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF KURDISH UNITY

Stating that “we need to develop policies appropriate to the new situation and process,” Çiftyürek recalled the “unity” conference held in Rojava in 2025 with the participation of representatives from many parties. Çiftyürek said, “We need to revive the spirit of the conference held in Rojava. National unity is very important. There has been a rapprochement between Rojava and the Kurdistan Federal Region, and that spirit needs to continue.”

Çiftyürek pointed out that global powers are experiencing structural problems and said: “First of all, there is a crisis of civilization. They want to overcome the nation-state but cannot. They want to overcome modernist discipline but cannot. Objectively, the post-Taylorist process has brought the world incredibly close to communism. However, communist, socialist and revolutionary movements around the world are also at their weakest point in history. How can this be overcome? A new revolutionary wave needs to take shape. There are already signs of this. This time humanity will ultimately settle accounts with capitalism.”

Stating that Kurds in many parts of Kurdistan are still engaged in a “struggle for existence,” Çiftyürek said: “We need to wait for the end of the war in Iran to see how the new era will take shape. What will Kurdistan’s position be? If a status based on ‘democracy for Iran, federalism for Kurdistan’ is achieved in Rojhilat, this will also affect the other three parts. If it does not happen, that too will have consequences. Kurdish politics in all four parts must be ready for this: there is a change in the regional climate. Everyone is taking a new position. After exactly 103 years, on 23 April, Turkey went to Britain, which had played a strategic role in the founding of the republic, and renewed the agreement from 103 years ago. The reason behind this is distrust toward NATO. It also does not trust the US.”

ABDULLAH ÖCALAN’S MESSAGES OF ‘FRATERNITY’

Pointing to Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s emphasis on “fraternity” among peoples, Çiftyürek said that even if a permanent national unity cannot be established, there is still a need for a common mechanism across the four parts of Kurdistan. He stated that in his latest message Abdullah Öcalan spoke of Mesopotamian-Anatolian brotherhood and thereby emphasized a “Third Way” that would also include Iran and Iranian Kurdistan. Çiftyürek said that in these calls Abdullah Öcalan opposes politics conducted without the Kurdish people, but that the state still does not constitutionally recognize Kurdish existence.

Criticizing the government for approaching the solution process primarily through “security” concerns, Çiftyürek said: “Abdullah Öcalan has done what needed to be done on his side within Kurdish politics. We are going through a difficult process. But speaking about the future, no one should make calculations based on the absence of the Kurds. The Kurdish movement has risen from its ashes every time. If we correctly read the new process, even if there is no lasting national alliance, if we can establish even a flexible mechanism, resolve our problems and focus against the enemy, then days of freedom await the Kurdish people.”
