Release of 32 year prisoner postponed for 8th time 2025-06-16 14:43:24   ANKARA – The release of Nedim Yılmaz, a 32-year prisoner in Bolu F-Type High Security Prison, has been prevented for the 8th time by the Administration and Observation Board on the grounds that he is not “remorseful”.    Nedim Yılmaz was detained and arrested on 18 August 1993 and sentence to life imprisonment by the Istanbul State Security Court (DGM). Yılmaz sentence ended on 29 July 2023. However Yılmaz’s release was postponed seven times after that date by the board, which decided on 28 May that there were no disciplinary penalties and the he is in “good behaviour”.    The Board concluded that he was not "remorseful", citing his previous disciplinary penalties and the fact that he was in the same ward with other detainees arrested in the same context. The Board postponed Yılmaz's release until 3 September 2025. With this decision, Yılmaz's release was postponed for the 8th time.   Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Şirnex (Şırnak) MP Newroz Uysal Aslan took the issue to the Parliament. In the application made to the Human Rights Investigation Commission (IHIK), it was emphasised that there are 33 prisoners in Bolu prison who are in the same situation as Yılmaz.   The application requested that Yılmaz and other prisoners who were prevented from being released be visited and that the situation be reported.    The application also requested that the Ministry of Justice be notified and that an administrative investigation be initiated against the members of the board who took the decisions in question.
