Kurdish artists: Let us further strengthen our unity

AMED - Artists from four regions emphasized the importance of the Kurdish people's unity in the face of attacks in Rojava, stating, “Today is our day; it is a day of unity, brotherhood, and freedom for the Kurdish people.”

While attacks by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), ISIS, and Turkey-backed paramilitary groups continue against Rojava, the Kurdish people across the four parts of Kurdistan and in Europe are united as one against these attacks for the first time. The Kurdish people, who previously showed similar solidarity during attacks on Kobanê, now say that national unity is a necessity rather than a choice, given that they are once again facing the threat of genocide years later.

‘THE TIME FOR 2+2=1’

Despite many previous attempts, unity efforts that failed to reach a conclusion have gained renewed momentum, especially following the Peace and Democratic Society Call by Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. However, especially with the attacks directed at Aleppo and later Rojava, messages of unity are being voiced from every square and every field. Kurds now want the formula “2+2=1” to become a reality.

As messages against the attacks come from many sectors, artists from the four parts of Kurdistan who spoke to Mezopotamya Agency (MA) also called on the Kurdish people to unite in the face of these assaults.

‘WE WILL DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY FOR OUR LAND’

Alen Arif, a violinist from South Kurdistan, sent greetings to the ongoing resistance, saying, “We stand with you. An attack on one part of the four parts of Kurdistan is an attack on all of us, and we will do everything we can to stop it. Whatever falls upon us for our homeland, we are at your service. Be at ease, women and men fighters; today there is unity in Kurdistan. Today all Kurds are one. Be at ease we will reach our goal.”

‘WE WILL TAKE OUR RIGHTS WITH OUR OWN HANDS’

From Rojhilat, Kijan İbrahim Xeyat stated that Kurdistan lives in the heart, saying: “If they ask, ‘Has Kurdistan disappeared?’ my answer is: Kurdistan is in my heart. Kurdistan is the motherland; it has preserved its existence for years, and today millions of Kurds live there. Unlike surrounding peoples, the Kurdish people have their own culture, language, and history. Unfortunately, our lands have been divided into pieces. This is not fair; the world is not fair either, allowing our rights to be torn apart like this. Today Rojava Kurdistan is wounded. Because there is no justice, our people must unite, become one, and raise a single voice against what is being done to our homeland. We will take our rights with our own hands.”

‘WE PAID THE PRICE OF DIVISION WITH GENOCIDES’

From Bakur artist Deniz Deman stated that the people of Rojava are facing a massacre, saying, “Throughout history, we have paid the price of fragmentation and division with massacres, exile, and genocide. This is, unfortunately, a historical reality. Today, national unity for the Kurdish people is not a choice but an existential necessity. History and the current conjuncture clearly impose this reality. It is essential for the Kurdish people to establish a common stance, a common will, and a common line of defense. A historic opportunity stands before us today. Kurds from all four parts of Kurdistan are resisting for Rojava with the same feelings, the same will, and the same demands. The conscience, awareness, and will of our people have now united at this point. This shared spirit clearly shows that national unity is now more possible. Kurds must unite around national unity with a sense of historical responsibility.”

‘LET'S HEAL OUR WOUNDS’

From Bakur artist Hozan Kawa also emphasized that the step toward peace, freedom, and a democratic society taken in 2025 by Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan created great excitement, especially among the Kurdish people and all peace-seeking peoples in the region. However, he stated that under today’s conditions a war has been launched, which is unacceptable. Kawa stated that the Kurdish people's gains in Rojava were being taken away from them, saying: “These gains were created thanks to young women and men. History is repeating itself once again. The only friend of the Kurd is the Kurd. We must heal our wounds, our pain, our sorrow ourselves. We call upon our people; especially all social, ideological, and religious groups, politicians, leaders of Kurdish parties, and artists to work together to strengthen and promote the unity of the Kurdish people. However we Kurds can stand up for ourselves. In Rojava, our people are being subjected to extremely brutal, inhumane attacks. What strengthens our hope is that in all four parts of Kurdistan and in the diaspora, our people, through uprisings, day and night, stand alongside the resistance and the revolution in Rojava.”

Repeating his call, Hozan Kawa concluded: “As Kurdish artists, we say: this time is our time, today is our day; today is the day of unity, brotherhood, and freedom for the Kurdish people.”

‘UNITY IS OUR REMEDY’

From Rojava artist Bengî Agirî also drew attention to the mosaic of peoples in the Middle East, stating that Kurds are kept under oppression in the current system and are not legally recognized.Agirî emphasized that the only way to be strong is through unity, stating that unity will be the remedy for years of pain and the cure for all problems.Agirî added that the scenes of solidarity that emerged after the attacks on Rojava should be further strengthened on the basis of national unity.
