New developments have emerged six years into the investigation of Gülistan Doku case. Gülistan Doku, a second-year Child Development student at Munzur University, was went missing on 5 January 2020 in Dêrsim. 

 

Tuncay Sonel, former governer of Dêrsim, was detained in Xarpêt (Elazığ), though it remains unclear where he will be taken. 

 

Speaking outside the courthouse in Dêrsim after hearing the news, mother Bedriye Doku said “Thank God,” expressing her relief. 

 

Sister Aygül Doku said she had faith in the judiciary and added: “Tuncay Sonel and his gang have been apprehended. We believe he will also be arrested.”

 

Women keeping vigil in solidarity with the family welcomed the news with applause, chanting, “We will win through resistance.”
