A person burnt his 'Toros' branded vehicle in front of the parliament 2025-08-19 11:00:03   ANKARA - A person set his white "Toros" car on fire in front of the Parliament garden in Ankara, near Çankaya Gate. The person shouted "I want God's justice" several times.    The person whose name was not known, was detained by the police in front of the Parliament and the Ministry of Justice and taken to Ankara Provincial Security Directorate.    White "Toros" brand vehicles were used by Gendarmerie Intelligence and Antı-terror Unit (JİTEM) in the 1990s in Kurdistan for unsolved murders and enforced disappearances. For this reason, it is known as a symbolic vehicle in unsolved murders.    The incident took place on a day when a parliamentary commission was to listen to the relatives of those who lost their lives during the conflict.    STATEMENT BY ANKARA POLICE   Ankara Security Directorate claimed that the person who set the car on fire in front of the Parliament was from Mersin, had psychological disorders and had many criminal records.   The statement of Ankara Security Directorate is as follows: "It has been determined that the vehicle fire that took place on 19.08.2025 on İnönü Boulevard in Çankaya district of our province was carried out by a person named M.E.F., who resides in Mersin province, has psychological disorders and has many criminal records. The person has been detained and an investigation has been initiated."   This incident took place just before the meeting of the National Solidarity, Fraternity and Democracy Commission, which was to convene today in the Parliament for the solution of the Kurdish issue.
